Me? At the moment, 551/2, married to Dale, we have 6 grown children between us and 5 grand kids. We moved to Brookings on the Southern Oregon Coast in 2001 September 1st. I was painting the new house when we listened with horror to the events of 9/11. We moved from Mission Viejo in California and my only regret is we waited too long. Now I hate to go back and on a recent trip back to see the kids I thought for sure I would die that day on the freeway!
I digress. I had sold real estate for 13 years and for 5 of those years raised the children by myself. My messy divorce ended in 1990 and Dale and I married on August 14th 1994. Dale is a computer person without whom I would not be writing this, well whatever you call it.
We moved here from a 6,000 sq. ft. lot in a subdivision of homes made of stucco and could tell what my neighbors were having for dinner.
Anyway this adventure, playing the part of a country girl started with me stuck in traffic driving to San Bernardino every day listening to country music. “Watch my corn pop up in rows” they sang. And I began to yearn for the country.
We are very fortunate that Dale can work from home. So as long as we have high speed internet for those fast down and up loads we could be anywhere.
First place had 9 acres. I knew horses were too big and cows were just, well, not me. So llamas somehow entered my life. I think the internet has a lot to answer for. You can find out about anything. And then what you want can be found with a click of a mouse.
My last real estate check purchased 4 pregnant llamas. Then I wondered if they needed protection. What if the babies were eaten by cougars? Bears? I searched the internet and found out about Guardian dogs. Now we have three of those. Oh and the llamas? I have had as many as 20 but at the time of writing this 14 and a couple pregnant ones.
All was well until I was drowning in overgrown brush. I need goats I proclaimed to my patient husband. Spike and Sunny a couple Pygora goats arrived, also found via the internet. It did not take long before I had a herd of Nigerian Dwarf goats and one Spring I had 35 kids! Then a couple of Sheep. I remember the day I got Ellie and Sabrina, two very skittish Shetlands.
To cut a very long story short I now (mostly) have and love sheep. But would you think I could make up my mind which breed? Nope, I have so many different ones just hop on over to http://www.riyescott.com/ and take a look!
Three years ago we moved to a larger place. Almost 200 acres, but can you believe we have close neighbors? Yep, we live close to the edge because that is the flat area.
My kids used to complain that we moved every 2 years. Well, when you sell real estate there is always a “good deal” that cannot be passed up. So Dale thinks that any time I will say I want to move. But no, I have found Shangri-La, the earthly paradise right here at Riyescott Ranch.
I hope my entries don’t bore or offend and I will try to entertain you with the funny and sometimes tragic goings on here at Riyescott Ranch.
